Toyota has refreshed the Land Cruiser 70 Series with a sharper focus on proven engines and simplified choices.
The update brings the 2.8-litre GD turbodiesel into wider availability across the range, delivering 150kW and up to 500Nm of torque depending on transmission.
Buyers can opt for a six-speed automatic or a five-speed manual, ensuring strong performance whether tackling rugged terrain, long journeys, or demanding worksites.
The long-serving 4.5-litre V8 diesel has been retired, signalling a shift toward smaller, more efficient powertrains. In its place, Toyota continues to offer the 4.0-litre V6 petrol and the 4.2-litre naturally aspirated diesel, both paired with manual gearboxes. The 4.2-litre retains shorter service intervals, reflecting its traditional design.

Customers still have three body styles to choose from: the Single Cab for heavy-duty work, the Double Cab for versatility, and the Station Wagon for off-road SUV capability. A key addition for 2026 is a standard service plan across the entire range.
Most derivatives are covered for nine services or 90,000km, while the 4.2-litre diesel models benefit from 18 services over the same distance due to their shorter intervals. The line-up remains backed by a three-year / 100,000km warranty.
Pricing reflects the breadth of choice, starting at R840,900 for the Single Cab petrol and rising to R1,199,000 for the VX Station Wagon. With this update, Toyota has streamlined the Land Cruiser 70 Series to balance tradition with modern efficiency, ensuring it continues to serve as a dependable workhorse and off-road companion for South African buyers.
