Volkswagen is set to reintroduce the Golf GTI to the South African market in late 2025, marking a fresh chapter for one of the most celebrated hot hatches in automotive history. With over 2.3 million units sold globally, the GTI remains a symbol of performance, style and innovation.
The latest iteration brings a refined exterior that blends tradition with modern flair. Newly developed LED Plus headlights offer a sharper, more linear look, seamlessly integrated into the radiator grille. A horizontal LED strip and the iconic red line, hallmarks since 1976, enhance its visual identity.
For the first time, the front Volkswagen logo is illuminated, adding a futuristic touch. At the rear, redesigned LED taillight clusters and striking 19-inch alloy wheels complete the transformation.
Inside, the GTI has undergone a comprehensive technological upgrade. The infotainment system now runs on Volkswagen—s fourth-generation modular platform, featuring a 32.8cm touchscreen with improved graphics and a more intuitive layout.
The tablet-style display appears to float, adding to the cabin—s modern aesthetic. Premium sports seats with integrated head restraints and Vienna leather upholstery come standard, accented by red GTI stitching across key touchpoints.
Under the bonnet, the GTI is powered by a 2.0 TSI engine delivering 195kW and 370Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission. Volkswagen claims a 0 to 100km/h sprint in just 5.9 seconds, with a top speed of 250km/h, ensuring the GTI retains its reputation for thrilling performance.
Priced at R908,000, this Limited Edition launch model offers a compelling blend of heritage and cutting-edge engineering. The legend, it seems, is not just back—it—s evolved.
