2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 Raises the Luxury SUV Stakes with 603 HP

The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 has arrived with a more powerful engine, refined styling and an even stronger focus on rear-seat luxury. The updated flagship SUV builds on the previous GLS 600, combining effortless performance with the craftsmanship and comfort expected from the Maybach name.

The biggest change is under the bonnet, where an electrified 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 now produces 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. A 48-volt mild-hybrid system can provide an additional 23 hp during acceleration, delivering smooth and effortless performance rather than outright aggression.

Mercedes-Maybach has also renamed the model from GLS 600 to GLS 680, aligning it with the broader Maybach naming strategy while continuing to use a refined V8 instead of a V12. The additional power represents a noticeable increase over the outgoing model while maintaining the quiet, composed driving character buyers expect.

Chassis upgrades further enhance comfort and handling. AIRMATIC air suspension comes standard, while optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL actively manages body movements to improve ride quality. Mercedes-Benz has also revised the steering for greater responsiveness without compromising refinement.

The exterior receives several exclusive Maybach touches, including a redesigned grille with illuminated surrounds and illuminated Maybach lettering. Buyers can also specify an illuminated standing Mercedes-Benz bonnet ornament, while DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps feature distinctive twin-star graphics with rose-gold detailing. Revised rear lighting and a redesigned tailgate give the SUV a broader, more commanding appearance.

Wheel options include a standard 22-inch design and optional 23-inch forged wheels fitted with centre caps engineered to keep the Mercedes-Benz star upright while the wheels rotate.

Inside, the GLS 680 continues its focus on passenger comfort with hand-finished Nappa leather, premium wood trim and expanded luxury features. Rear occupants benefit from upgraded massage seats that now include calf-rest massage, twin wireless charging pads and the latest infotainment technology, reinforcing the SUV's chauffeur-oriented design.

Mercedes-Benz USA expects the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 to reach dealerships later this year, with pricing to be announced closer to launch. The latest update strengthens the model's position as one of the most luxurious and technologically advanced SUVs available, blending exceptional comfort with effortless performance.
