Toyota Hilux Introduces New Generation for South Africa

Toyota has unveiled the latest generation Hilux for South Africa, introducing updated styling, advanced safety technology, improved connectivity and a streamlined model range while retaining the durability that has defined the Hilux for nearly six decades.

Johannesburg, June 2026 – Toyota has unveiled the latest generation of the Hilux, marking the most
significant update since the eighth generation. The new model builds on nearly six decades of
heritage while adapting to modern demands for safety, technology and comfort.

The Hilux was first launched in 1968 and has become one of the most recognised pickups worldwide,
known for durability and capability. Its reputation has been reinforced through rally-raid success,
including Dakar Rally victories.

The new Hilux has been developed to meet changing demands, with buyers demanding
advanced safety systems, connectivity and premium interiors alongside durability. The design
follows Toyota’s “Cyber Sumo” concept, combining technology with toughness. Slimmer LED
headlamps, a wider grille and updated wheel designs define the front, while integrated access steps
and modern LED lighting improve practicality at the rear.

Inside, the cabin introduces a new architecture with a horizontal dashboard, improved ergonomics
and upgraded materials. Higher grades feature a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and
infotainment display, wireless smartphone integration and multiple USB-C charging points.

Connectivity is enhanced through Toyota Remote and MyToyota applications, offering remote
monitoring, service scheduling and vehicle tracking.

Safety systems have been expanded with Toyota Safety Sense 3, including Pre-Collision detection,
Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist and Emergency Steering Assist. Blind Spot Monitoring,
Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Safe Exit Assist are available for the first time. Security enhancements
include Ultra-Wide Band technology on Smart Entry models and a redesigned gear-lock system.
