Nissan’s Refreshed X-Trail Arrives in South Africa

The Nissan X-Trail has been a familiar presence on South African roads since its local debut in 2001, with more than 50,000 units sold locally and over eight million worldwide. The latest generation builds on that success with improved refinement, advanced technology and greater comfort, while remaining competitively priced in the mid-size SUV segment.

Built in Japan, the refreshed X-Trail is available in three derivatives: Visia, Acenta and Acenta Plus. Designed as a versatile family SUV, it combines modern safety features with a spacious cabin and enhanced connectivity.

Standard equipment includes keyless entry with Nissan's Walkaway Lock and Approach Unlock, tilt and telescopic steering adjustment, paddle shifters, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity and a 12.3-inch infotainment display. Higher-specification models add dual-zone climate control, heated electrically adjustable front seats and a fully digital instrument cluster, while the flagship Acenta Plus also features a Head-Up Display.

Practicality remains one of the X-Trail's strongest selling points. The second-row seats slide, recline and fold to maximise passenger comfort or cargo space, while the Acenta Plus adds a third row that can also recline or fold flat when not in use.

A standout technology feature is Nissan's eight-camera 3D Around View Monitor. The system provides multiple viewing angles, including Invisible Hood View and T-Junction View, helping drivers navigate tight parking spaces and complex intersections with greater confidence.

The exterior has been updated with a redesigned front grille and bumper that create a wider, more confident stance. Polycarbonate door inserts and alloy wheels ranging from 17 inches on the Visia to 19 inches on the Acenta Plus further distinguish the range. All models feature LED headlights and taillights, with two-tier lighting that places LED daytime running lights above the main driving lamps. High Beam Assist and Follow Me Home lighting come standard across the lineup.

Power comes from a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 135 kW and 244 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with Nissan's latest continuously variable transmission, engineered to deliver smoother, more natural gear changes while working alongside a limited-slip differential. Fuel consumption is rated at 7.4 litres per 100 km, providing an estimated driving range of around 750 km from the 55-litre fuel tank.

Drivers can choose between ECO, NORMAL and SPORT drive modes, while the Acenta Plus adds Terrain Mode with dedicated settings for mud, snow and sand.

The refreshed Nissan X-Trail is available immediately, with the Visia priced at R599,900, the Acenta at R688,900 and the flagship Acenta Plus at R770,900. Every model is backed by a 3-year/90,000 km service plan and a 6-year/150,000 km mechanical warranty.
