Nissan unveils new electrified models in Philippines push

Nissan unveils Navara Pro plug-in hybrid and Primera EV in Philippines debut, highlighting China-led electrified export strategy shift.

Nissan has used the Philippine International Motor Show to reveal two new electrified vehicles that signal a wider shift in its global strategy. The company introduced the Navara Pro Plug-in Hybrid pickup and the Primera EV sedan, marking the beginning of an export programme that places China at the centre of Nissan’s product development and international expansion plans.

The launch is more than a regional showcase. It reflects Nissan’s intention to strengthen its global line-up by using China as a base for innovation, manufacturing and exports to selected overseas markets. According to the company, the Philippines is the first market outside China to receive these new models under the strategy.

The Navara Pro Plug-in Hybrid has been positioned as a pickup designed for both practical work and everyday lifestyle use. Nissan is combining the rugged appeal traditionally associated with the Navara name with electrified performance, suggesting a clear effort to modernise the pickup segment without losing its utility-focused identity.

Alongside it, the new Primera EV presents a different side of Nissan’s ambitions. The sedan has been described as streamlined and comfort-focused, with an emphasis on premium cabin features and improved connectivity. The model appears aimed at buyers looking for a more refined electric driving experience, supported by modern in-car technology.

Although technical specifications have not yet been released, the two vehicles represent an important statement of intent. Nissan is signalling that it wants faster, more competitive product development and a broader response to changing customer expectations across different markets.

The company also used the event to highlight its wider electrification plans in the Philippines. Joining the new pickup and sedan were the latest Kicks e-POWER and X-Trail e-POWER models, both featuring Nissan’s hybrid system designed to deliver the feel of an electric drive with the convenience of a conventional fuel set-up.

Together, the unveils suggest Nissan is working to rebuild momentum through a more flexible and internationally connected product strategy. By introducing new electrified models from China into export markets, the company is attempting to sharpen its competitiveness while expanding its appeal to drivers seeking efficiency, technology and modern design.
