Suzuki has introduced the Across to the South African market, a C-segment SUV that blends mild-hybrid technology with practicality and modern comfort, aimed squarely at families and urban drivers.
Positioned as the brand’s most advanced SUV locally, it offers a balance of efficiency, usability and contemporary driver assistance features.
The exterior design is assertive yet functional, with LED projector headlamps, daytime running lights, a trapezoidal grille and protective cladding. GL models ride on 17-inch dark grey alloys, while GLX versions gain dual-tone machined alloys.
At the rear, a full-width LED taillamp cluster, roof spoiler and aluminium-look skid plate complete the look. Buyers can choose from single-tone finishes, with GLX offering optional dual-tone paint for added flair.
Inside, the cabin is designed for everyday practicality, with split-fold rear seats, inductive charging, multiple storage points and a 10.1-inch infotainment system. GL models feature fabric upholstery, reverse camera, cruise control and six airbags, while GLX adds synthetic leather with copper stitching, ventilated power seats, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, premium audio and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems.
Power comes from Suzuki’s 1.5-litre K15C mild-hybrid petrol engine, producing 76kW and 137Nm. It incorporates regenerative braking and start/stop technology, with fuel consumption rated at 5.3 l/100km. The GL trim offers both manual and automatic gearboxes, while the GLX is automatic only.
The model range is straightforward: GL brings fabric seats, reverse camera, rear sensors, wireless smartphone integration and six airbags, while GLX elevates the package with synthetic leather, ventilated seats, head-up display, Harman Infinity sound, 360º camera, panoramic sunroof and adaptive driver assistance including lane keep and blind spot monitoring.
Pricing starts at R349 900 for the GL 5MT, R372 900 for the GL 6AT, and R464 900 for the GLX 6AT, positioning the Across as a well-equipped, efficient and family-friendly SUV in South Africa’s competitive compact-to-mid-size segment.
