Stellantis Backs Digital Skills Drive in South Africa

Stellantis South Africa has announced a new partnership with Social Coding South Africa to expand access to coding, robotics and digital learning in communities where technology resources remain limited.

The collaboration forms part of Stellantis Philanthropy, the group's global programme focused on education, youth development and creating opportunities for young people. At the centre of the initiative is a mobile computer laboratory that will deliver practical digital skills training directly to schools and community centres.

The programme will provide Grade 8 and Grade 9 learners with hands-on experience in coding, robotics, artificial intelligence and other technologies associated with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Teachers will also receive training to integrate digital tools into their classrooms, while young facilitators will gain certification and paid work experience to help expand the programme's reach.

Learners will have opportunities to participate in national and international robotics competitions, ensuring that skills development extends beyond the classroom. By equipping educators and developing local facilitators, the initiative aims to leave lasting digital capability within participating communities.

Sizwekazi Mdingi, Head of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility for South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa at Stellantis, said access to skills and opportunities is essential for long-term progress.

Thembiso Magajana, founder of Social Coding South Africa, said the partnership would help bridge the gap between local talent and opportunities that are often beyond the reach of many young people. She added that the mobile technology lab demonstrates to learners and teachers alike that coding, robotics and artificial intelligence are accessible skills that can open doors to future careers.

The initiative reflects Stellantis' broader commitment to supporting education, digital inclusion and youth empowerment while helping prepare South Africa's next generation for careers in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
