Filtration specialist MANN+HUMMEL has inaugurated a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, marking a significant investment in the region.

The new plant is set to produce a diverse range of automotive filters for the company's extensive network of aftermarket suppliers. Cedric Dackam, President for the Automotive Aftermarket at MANN+HUMMEL, expressed optimism about South Africa's future, stating, This investment reflects our confidence in South Africa's future. It allows us to be more responsive to local market needs and provides a foothold to reach other markets in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Spanning 3,200 m, the facility will focus on manufacturing high-performance filters for commercial vehicles, passenger cars, off-highway applications such as mining and construction, and various industrial uses. Operations are scheduled to commence in March 2025, with the plant capable of scaling up to three shifts based on market demand.

Cavin Hearne, Managing Director of MANN+HUMMEL South Africa, highlighted the plant's flexibility, noting its ability to quickly switch between different filter types. This adaptability enables the company to offer a wide variety of locally-made filters and promptly adjust products to meet customer requirements.

This plant in South Africa is a key milestone in MANN+HUMMEL Africa's business growth strategy, said Kurk Wilks, President and CEO of MANN+HUMMEL. It aligns with our in the region, for the region philosophy, offering our customers more responsive and competitive solutions.

Sustainability is integral to the plant's design, featuring solar power integration and the adoption of the company's 3R principles reduce, reuse, recycle to minimise environmental impact.

Since its establishment in South Africa in 2016, MANN+HUMMEL has steadily expanded its range and reach. While currently focused on the aftermarket, the company is also capable of supplying manufacturers directly, as it does in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
