Toyota and Daimler Truck finalize a $6.4B merger of Hino and Mitsubishi Fuso, forming a new Japanese truck powerhouse set to launch in April 2026.

Daimler Truck AG, Mitsubishi Fuso, Toyota, and Hino Motors have signed definitive agreements to merge Mitsubishi Fuso and Hino Motors into a single entity, creating a powerful alliance in the commercial vehicle sector.

The integration will establish both companies as equal partners, combining their expertise in commercial vehicle development, procurement, and production. A new holding company is set to begin operations in April 2026, with headquarters in Tokyo and plans to list on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's Prime Market.

Under the agreement structure, Daimler Truck and Toyota will each maintain 25% stakes in the holding company, which will have complete ownership of both Mitsubishi Fuso and Hino. Karl Deppen has been appointed as CEO of the new entity, though the holding company's name remains to be announced.

This merger represents a strategic response to evolving market demands in commercial transportation, which the companies describe as critical "social infrastructure" for moving people and goods.
