LDV Terron 9: Bakkie Meets Boardroom

LDV Terron 9 blends bakkie toughness with SUV comfort, offering 164kW, 520Nm, 4x4 capability, premium tech and pricing from R779 900.

South African buyers have long wrestled with a familiar dilemma — choose the rugged utility of a bakkie or the refined comfort of an SUV. The LDV Terron 9 makes that choice unnecessary.

Arriving as a premium double cab, it bridges the gap between workhorse and family vehicle with impressive conviction, and does so at a price that undercuts many of its rivals.

Under the bonnet sits a 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine producing a robust 164kW and 520Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and a full-time 4x4 drivetrain. Six selectable drive modes — including Mud, Sand, Snow and Tow — allow the driver to tailor the vehicle's response to the terrain at hand, while front and rear differential locks add a further layer of traction in demanding conditions. A towing capacity of 3 500kg rounds out the mechanicals, making the Terron 9 as capable as it looks.

The exterior carries a wide, upright stance with LED headlights, 20-inch alloy wheels and roof rails giving it a purposeful presence on road and off. Flagship models add a panoramic sunroof and an electric tailgate for good measure.

Inside, the Terron 9 surprises most. Dual 12.3-inch displays, a JBL audio system, dual-zone climate control and leather upholstery elevate the cabin well above typical bakkie territory. The top-spec model adds heated, ventilated and massaging seats — a first for this segment at this price.

Safety credentials are equally strong. A five-star ANCAP rating, seven airbags, Autonomous Emergency Braking, lane-keeping assist and blind spot monitoring reflect serious engineering intent. A five-year or 200 000km warranty provides further peace of mind.

Priced from R779 900, the LDV Terron 9 is a compelling proposition.
