The automotive landscape in South Africa is shifting rapidly, and DealerCon 2025 is positioned as a vital event for industry professionals seeking to stay ahead. Brandon Cohen, Chairperson of the National Automobile Dealers' Association (NADA), highlighted the importance of this summit during a recent discussion at the Cars.co.za studio in Johannesburg.
Unlike the many product launches that dominate the sector, DealerCon offers dealer-focused content designed to address key industry challenges. According to Cohen, the biggest obstacle for dealers remains the financial strain on consumers. However, he pointed to emerging opportunities, including the strong presence of Chinese automotive brands, evolving strategies from established manufacturers and better stock availability in the used car market.
Chinese brands have made notable progress, increasing their market share from just 2% in 2019 to 9% by mid-2024. Almost half of these brands entered the South African market within the past year, contributing to a diverse automotive landscape with more than 50 brands now available to consumers.
NADA plays a crucial role in supporting dealers and protecting consumer interests through transparency and ethical practices. The association also works to safeguard dealers against unscrupulous operators, with initiatives like its partnership with Absa aimed at improving access to finance and streamlining transactions.
Cohen urged dealers to attend DealerCon 2025 to gain insights and strategies for engaging today's highly informed buyers, who often arrive with strong preconceptions that can influence their purchasing decisions.
