Chery Group Broadens Horizons with New Models

Chery showcases Tiggo V, Jaecoo J5 HEV and iCAUR EVs at Beijing Auto Show 2026, hinting at new models heading to South Africa.

The 2026 Beijing Auto Show offered a glimpse into the evolving ambitions of the Chery Group.
With its multi-brand strategy, the company continues to diversify across segments, presenting vehicles that balance innovation, practicality and future-focused technology. Several of these models are earmarked for South Africa, promising to expand consumer choice in the coming months.

*** Tiggo V Experiments with Versatility ***

Chery’s Tiggo V stood out as a bold attempt to merge SUV, MPV and bakkie characteristics into one adaptable platform. The emphasis lies on reconfigurable seating and load space, designed to meet varied family and lifestyle needs. While drivetrain specifics remain under wraps, hints of fuel efficiency and all-terrain ability suggest a petrol or hybrid system rather than full electric. Its local success will hinge on whether this multi-role concept proves genuinely useful beyond its novelty.

*** Jaecoo J5 HEV Targets Efficiency ***

Jaecoo’s J5 HEV was showcased through real-world testing rather than a static display, underscoring its hybrid credentials. Combining petrol power with electric assistance, the compact SUV achieved 3.7 litres per 100km and a range exceeding 1 000km. Performance figures remain modest, but the July 2026 South African launch positions it as a mainstream competitor in the growing hybrid SUV segment.

*** iCAUR Charts an Electrified Path ***

iCAUR used the event to highlight its design ambitions and new energy direction. A concept car hinted at future styling, while the V23 and V27 models provided more substance. The V27 employs a range-extended electric vehicle setup, pairing an electric drivetrain with a petrol generator to ease reliance on charging infrastructure. The V23, meanwhile, offers a smaller SUV with a conventional electric layout. Though launch dates for South Africa are not yet confirmed, iCAUR is clearly positioning itself as a lifestyle-oriented, electrified alternative within the Chery stable.
