Volvo Car South Africa has introduced the EX30 Cross Country, an all-electric SUV that adds off-road capability to the existing EX30 range. The Cross Country-variant features raised ground clearance, all-wheel drive, and modified styling elements to distinguish it from the standard EX30. Available only in Ultra trim specification, it uses a twin-motor setup producing 315kW and 543Nm, enabling acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. Top speed is limited to 180 km/h.
Range and charging:
The 69-kWh battery provides up to 427 km range on the WLTP cycle, with energy consumption rated at 18.7 kWh/100km. Using a compatible fast charger, the battery charges from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes.
Design changes:
The Cross Country sits 13 mm higher than the standard EX30, providing 190 mm ground clearance. Exterior modifications include 19-inch matte graphite alloy wheels, matte black aero inserts, darker-toned front shield and boot lid, and artwork inspired by Sweden's Kebnekaise mountain range. Additional skid plates and wider wheel arch extensions give the vehicle a more robust appearance. Five exterior colours are available: Sand Dune, Cloud Blue, Crystal White, Onyx Black, and Vapour Grey.
Interior and equipment:
The interior maintains the EX30's minimalist design but adds Ultra trim features including heated steering wheel and front seats, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, and power-adjustable front seats. A nine-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Google services are standard.Cargo space measures 400 litres behind the rear seats, expandable with the 60:40 split-fold rear bench. Interior options include Pine (green) and Indigo (blue) finishes, both incorporating recycled materials.
Safety features:
Standard safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, pilot assist with steering support, 360-degree parking camera, and various collision mitigation systems.

Pricing and availability:
The EX30 Cross Country is priced at R1.165 000 and includes a three-year/60 000km maintenance plan, five-year/100 000km warranty, eight-year battery warranty, and five years of roadside assistance. Additional benefits include two years of free public charging, a home wallbox with installation, and 36 months of 10 GB monthly data allocation.
