Volkswagen introduces the new Tayron to local roads

Volkswagen has expanded its SUV offering with the arrival of the Tayron, a seven-seater designed to fill the gap between the Touareg and the Tiguan.

Volkswagen has expanded its SUV offering with the arrival of the Tayron, a seven-seater designed to fill the gap between the Touareg and the Tiguan. This newcomer steps in as the successor to the Tiguan Allspace, bringing more space, technology and a refreshed design.

The Tayron's importance in the VW line-up will grow, especially with rumours suggesting the Touareg could be discontinued by 2026.

The Tayron was first introduced in China, but its second generation now caters to global markets, including South Africa. Local versions are sourced from Germany.

At 4.79 metres long, the Tayron sports a clean, modern SUV profile. Its front-end features LED headlights and an illuminated VW badge, creating a striking light signature. Advanced technology from the Touareg, such as IQ. Light HD matrix headlights, makes its way into this model. The interior continues the premium feel with high-quality finishes, illuminated trims and optional massage seats.

Three equipment lines will be available: Base, Life and R-Line. Even the entry-level Base offers LED headlights, Park Assist and adaptive cruise control. The Life model adds ambient lighting, digital instruments and a three-zone climate control system. The R-Line stands out with sports seats in leather, aluminium-look details and enhanced styling.

Powering the Tayron is a 1.4 TSI engine delivering 110 kW and 250 Nm, paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission. Prices start at R811 800 for the Base model, R853 800 for the Life and R899 900 for the R-Line.
