Despite ongoing economic uncertainty and volatility in the local transport sector, UD Trucks Southern Africa says it continues to strengthen its position through steady growth, solid dealer partnerships and an unwavering focus on customer uptime.
These priorities were highlighted during the UD Trucks 2026 Media Engagement held at Zwartkops Raceway in Tshwane, where the company outlined its recent performance and future direction in the South African market.
UD Trucks achieved an overall new vehicle market share of 8 percent, supported by aggregate industry sales that increased to 31 652 units from 31 190 units in 2024. The aftermarket division also delivered encouraging results, with service agreement uptake reaching around 50 percent, underlining the importance customers place on predictable operating costs and vehicle availability.
“While the operating environment remains challenging, our performance shows that customers trust UD Trucks to deliver reliable solutions that support their businesses,” says Filip Van den Heede, Managing Director of UD Trucks Southern Africa. “Our focus remains clear, to drive further for better by offering innovative products, strong retail partnerships and solutions that make a real difference to customer operations.”
Product innovation remains central to the brand’s strategy. The UD Quon, positioned as the flagship long haul truck in the range, continues to anchor the line up. Designed for demanding heavy duty operations, the Quon combines advanced technology, productivity and uptime to support operators working under sustained commercial pressure.

Alongside it, the UD Quester was showcased as a key contributor to the brand’s success in growth markets. Since its launch in 2013, the Quester has earned a reputation for efficiency, durability and versatility across a broad spectrum of applications. The 2026 update introduces enhancements such as the ESCOT direct drive gearbox, a four stage retarder, UD stability control, a driver airbag and a refreshed cab interior focused on comfort and usability.
“Quester is more than a truck, it is a business partner,” says Esaia Taunyane, Sales Director of UD Trucks Southern Africa. “Every feature on the Quester is guided by customer feedback. By improving efficiency, safety and the driver experience, we help customers reduce total cost of ownership and achieve stronger long-term returns on their fleet investments.”
Uptime is further supported through aftermarket solutions and dealer investment. “Uptime is about anticipation, not reaction,” says Sanjay Naipal, Aftermarket Director of UD Trucks Southern Africa. “By combining proactive maintenance solutions with strong dealer support and connected services, we help customers manage costs, protect productivity and keep their fleets moving, even in demanding operating conditions.”
Ongoing upgrades across the dealer network and international recognition at the 2025 UD Partner Conference in Japan continue to reinforce UD Trucks’ long term commitment to the South African market.
