Toyota is signalling its intent to cater for diverse customer needs, with launches planned that emphasise both innovation and durability.
Locally, the brand and its luxury division Lexus and Toyota itself will bring three new battery-electric vehicles to South Africa in 2025.
One of these, the Toyota bZ4X, is already being showcased at naamsa’s Autoweek. The crossover SUV will receive key upgrades including advanced eAxle technology, suspension refinements and a quieter cabin. Buyers can select from two battery options, with the top version offering up to 573km of range and acceleration from zero to 100km/h in 5.1 seconds. Charging times are expected to be around 30 minutes in ideal conditions.
At the same time, Toyota is drawing attention for its upcoming compact Land Cruiser, which has been widely discussed as the “baby Land Cruiser” or “mini-FJ Cruiser”. Creative Trend has suggested the off-roader will be unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show in 2025, reaching showrooms in Japan by spring 2026.
Its design reflects the Compact Cruiser EV concept, with leaked patent images showing a robust look and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. Built on the IMV-0 platform shared with the HiLux and Fortuner, it is expected to debut with a 2.7-litre petrol engine, underscoring Toyota’s reputation for reliability.
The dual approach of advancing electric technology while reviving an off-road icon underlines Toyota’s strategy of offering both sustainable and traditional solutions. For South African drivers, it means more choice than ever before as the brand prepares to deliver vehicles that can suit a wide range of lifestyles.
