Toyota Hilux Reclaims Record at Nampo

Toyota South Africa Motors celebrated a record 1,545 Hilux convoy at Nampo Harvest Day 2026, highlighting the model’s enduring legacy.

Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has celebrated a historic milestone at the 2026 Nampo Harvest Day, reaffirming the enduring popularity of its iconic Hilux. A total of 1 545 Hilux vehicles gathered in a remarkable show of loyalty, surpassing the previous benchmark of 1 440 units and reclaiming the record for the largest Hilux gathering ever achieved.

Leon Theron, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing at TSAM, described the event as unforgettable: “We set sights on making history and our Hilux community rallied behind us from across South Africa. This wasn’t just about the record-breaking attempt, it was about honouring the enduring legacy of the Hilux and the strong community that surrounds it.”

Since its South African debut in 1969, the Hilux has become synonymous with durability and dependability. At the event, one of the oldest models dated back to the early 1970s, while another had travelled more than one million kilometres — a testament to the vehicle’s reputation for longevity.

The atmosphere was festive and family-friendly, featuring live entertainment, giveaways and spot prizes. To mark the occasion, one participant, Hendrik Coetzee, won a brand-new Hilux Xtra Cab complete with insurance and accessories, awarded through a special draw among attendees.

Toyota also attempted four additional Guinness World Records during the celebration, with results pending official adjudication.

Theron emphasised the broader significance of the day: “Our customers are our community. The Hilux is not only a vehicle, it is a legacy that is proudly South African, built into families, communities and shared moments.”

This record-breaking gathering underscores the Hilux’s place in South African motoring history, highlighting its resilience and the loyalty of its community.
