Tata Africa, in partnership with Tata Motors India, has celebrated the rollout of its 12 000th locally assembled commercial vehicle from the Rosslyn Assembly Facility in South Africa.
The achievement highlights Tata’s long-term commitment to strengthening the country’s automotive sector and fostering industrial collaboration between India and South Africa.
Ceremony and Symbolism
The milestone event brought together senior leadership, dealer partners, industry stakeholders, and His Excellency Prabhat Kumar, High Commissioner of India to South Africa. The ceremonial vehicle — a Tata Ultra T.14 — was unveiled and handed over to RAM Couriers as part of a broader fleet agreement, underscoring Tata’s focus on reliability and customer productivity.
Commitment to Local Growth
“As milestones are built on trust, customer confidence and strong partnerships, this rollout reflects our long-standing commitment to South Africa,” said Asif Shamim, Head – International Business, Tata Motors Ltd. He emphasised the company’s ‘Better Always’ philosophy, which drives investment in skills, jobs, and local capability.

Rosslyn Facility: Building for South Africa
Established in 2011, the Rosslyn plant spans 35 000 square metres and has an annual capacity of over 2 200 vehicles. It assembles a range of Tata commercial vehicles — including Ultra, Prima, and LPT models — alongside Tata Daewoo units. Built to modern standards, the facility integrates rigorous quality processes and inspection systems to ensure product excellence.
Looking Ahead
Jacques Taylor, Managing Director of Tata Africa Holdings, noted: “Today’s milestone reflects more than production scale. It represents the progress we have made together with our employees, partners and customers.” Tata also revealed an exclusive preview of two new Ultra models set to expand the platform’s offering in South Africa.
