Suzuki Jimny owners aim for world record at South African gathering

Hundreds of Suzuki Jimny enthusiasts will attempt to break a Guinness World Record when they gather in South Africa's Western Cape this September.

Hundreds of Suzuki Jimny enthusiasts will attempt to break a Guinness World Record when they gather in South Africa's Western Cape this September.

The Jimny Gathering 2025, taking place from 25 to 28 September at the Louvain Guest Farm in the Outeniqua Mountains, will see participants attempt the record for the most cars closing their doors simultaneously.

"This time, for the most cars to close their doors at the exact same time. Yes, you heard me ' a synchronised Jimny door slam. So polish your hinges, fill your tank and come join the action," says event MC Schalk Bezuidenhout, a South African comedian and Jimny owner.

The attempt follows the 2023 Jimny Gathering's successful record for the most vehicles switching on their lights simultaneously. To qualify for the new record, Guinness World Records requires a minimum of 250 vehicles, with at least one door on each vehicle closed within five seconds of the starting signal.

"We believe the coordinated and simultaneous closing of the doors will be a fun and exciting spectacle to witness," says Brendon Carpenter, Brand Marketing Manager at Suzuki Auto South Africa. "In 2023, close to 800 Jimny, LJ, SJ and Samurai models from across South Africa took part. We're expecting to beat that number when we line up for the final countdown on 27 September."

The event celebrates off-road adventures, custom builds and the unique lifestyle that the compact 4x4 inspires amongst its devoted followings.
