OMODA has broadened its local offering with the arrival of the C5 SHS, its first conventional hybrid in South Africa. The new model blends petrol and electric power to deliver greater efficiency without compromising performance, a timely move given rising fuel costs.
Based on the popular C5, the SHS introduces subtle exterior details such as 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake callipers, LED lighting and a sunroof, while retaining the bold styling of the range. Inside, a redesigned cabin layout features dual 12.3-inch screens, wireless smartphone integration, a Sony sound system and leather upholstery, with heated and ventilated seats adding comfort. Practicality is enhanced by split-folding rear seats that expand boot space to more than 1 000 litres.
Safety and convenience are comprehensive, with seven airbags, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, lane change assist and a 360-degree camera, alongside features such as keyless entry, wireless phone charging and acoustic glass for a quieter drive.

Power comes from a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor, producing 165kW and 295Nm. The SHS accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and achieves a claimed fuel consumption of 4.9 L/100 km. With a 1.83kWh battery and 51-litre fuel tank, the driving range exceeds 1 000 km.
Priced at R469 900, with the official figure set at R479 000, the C5 SHS includes a five-year/75,000 km service plan, a five-year/150,000 km factory warranty and a 10-year/one-million km engine warranty for the first owner.
