Range anxiety, often described as a chronic concern for electric vehicle drivers, has been turned on its head by Volvo with the introduction of the new EX60.
The Volvo EX60 made its international debut recently and is scheduled to arrive in South Africa in the third quarter of 2026. Positioned in one of the world’s largest electric vehicle segments, the EX60 signals Volvo Cars’ intent to expand its electric market share while delivering a family friendly premium SUV.
Distance:
All three engine variants boast class leading driving ranges, according to Volvo. The P12 AWD Electric offers up to 810 km, the P10 AWD Electric delivers 660 km, and the rear wheel drive P6 Electric provides up to 620 km on a single charge.
New architecture:
Built on Volvo Cars’ SPA3 architecture and powered by the HuginCore core system, the EX60 benefits from cell to body technology, in house developed next generation electric motors, advanced battery cell design and megacasting. These elements work together to improve efficiency, reduce weight and extend driving range.
The EX60 also debuts Volvo Cars’ world first multi adaptive safety belt, delivering more intelligent and personalised protection for front row occupants.
The five seater EX60 is designed as a practical family vehicle while offering a premium user experience. It represents Volvo Cars’ first entry into the largest global electric segment, enabling the brand to reach a wider audience.
Music lovers are also catered for with a premium 28 speaker Bowers and Wilkins audio system. For the first time in a Volvo, headrest speakers are fitted to all four main seats.

Benchmark power and range:
In all wheel drive form, the EX60 can travel up to 810 km on a single charge, setting a new benchmark for Volvo electric vehicles and surpassing recently revealed competitors. Charging performance is equally impressive, with the EX60 capable of adding up to 340 km of range in just ten minutes when connected to a 400 kW fast charger.
Power outputs across the range vary between 275 kW and 375 kW, depending on the model.
The EX60 comes with a ten year battery warranty. In Sweden, private customers will also receive three years of free home charging, with this offer expected to roll out to other markets in due course.
