On 12 March, the National Automobile Dealers’ Association (NADA) once again demonstrated why its annual conference is regarded as one of the automotive sector’s flagship gatherings.
Known for its seamless organisation and a consistent ability to deliver content of substance, the event has become a trusted platform for industry insight, strategic thinking and future focused discussion.
This year’s edition, NADA Connect 2026, centred on the theme Amplify Your Impact and placed notable focus on the roles of social media and artificial intelligence in modern dealership operations. About 600 delegates attended and heard from an impressive roster of speakers that included Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI) CEO Ipeleng Mabusela, Chery CEO Tony Liu, WeBuyCars Deputy CEO Dr Wynand Beukes and innovation expert Dean Furman. The agenda also featured a lively panel of young influencers, hosted by Phillippa McCann-Davies, who unpacked the evolving expectations of digital audiences.
Mabusela set a positive tone with a message of resilience. He noted that while global instability, particularly the conflict in the Middle East, poses challenges, the automotive aftermarket continues to hold firm. Drawing on comprehensive RMI data, he highlighted key trends that point to the sector’s underlying strength and long-term stability.

Liu delivered an in-depth look into Chery’s rapid growth trajectory and its ambitions within South Africa. He explained that Chery is not content with being seen purely as an international entrant. Instead, the brand aims to cement its place as a fully integrated participant in the local community and economy, striving to earn recognition as a South African citizen in spirit and contribution.
Furman, founder and CEO of 1064 Degrees and one of Africa’s leading voices on innovation, offered delegates practical guidance on embedding artificial intelligence into everyday dealership operations. His presentation showcased how AI tools can dramatically elevate output, enabling dealerships to achieve marketing and operational results that previously required significant financial investment.
Building on this theme, Dr Beukes illustrated how WeBuyCars has leveraged AI to refine its well known operating model. He outlined the organisation’s journey of integrating advanced technology to boost accuracy, efficiency and customer experience, showing how AI can enhance an already successful business approach.
The conference concluded with a heartfelt moment as NADA honoured former Director Gary McCraw. His decades of service and immense commitment to the automotive industry were formally recognised, earning warm appreciation from the association and attendees alike.
