Kia Carens re-enters South Africa

Kia Carens returns to South Africa as a seven-seater family car with diesel efficiency, modern tech and pricing from R399,995.

The Kia Carens name returns to the South African market, this time as a seven-seater aimed squarely at families who need space and practicality.

It combines the styling cues of a sport utility vehicle with the usability of a multi-purpose vehicle, offering a blend of comfort, efficiency and modern technology.

The Carens provides seating for seven across three rows, with generous legroom and headroom. The boot is designed to carry family essentials, while features vary by model.

Upholstery ranges from cloth and artificial leather to full artificial leather, and infotainment systems start with an eight-inch display supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rising to a 12.3-inch screen in higher trims.

The SX derivative adds electric driver seat adjustment, lumbar support, heated front seats and a Bose premium sound system with eight speakers.

On the outside the Carens follows Kia’s bold design language, with an assertive front stance and LED daytime running lights. Star-map inspired LED headlights and tail lamps give the vehicle a distinctive signature. Wheel sizes range from 16-inch styled wheels on LS models to 17-inch Crystal Cut dual-tone alloys on LX and above, with roof rails and electric folding mirrors included from the LX upwards.

Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine producing 85kW and 250Nm. Fuel consumption is rated at 5.0 litres per 100km with the manual transmission and 5.3 litres per 100km with the automatic. Suspension is by Macpherson struts at the front and a coupled torsion beam at the rear. Safety equipment includes ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Start Assist and multiple airbags.

Four derivatives are available. The LS is manual only, with cloth and artificial leather trim and an eight-inch infotainment system. The LX adds automatic transmission, alloy wheels, cruise control and wireless charging.

The EX introduces LED daytime running lights, smart key with push button start and a 12.3-inch infotainment display. The SX tops the range with advanced driver assistance systems including Surround View Monitor, Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance, Lane Keeping Assist and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist.

Pricing starts at R399 995 for the LS, R459 995 for the LX, R499 995 for the EX and R599 995 for the SX. All models are sold with Kia’s five-year unlimited kilometre warranty including roadside assistance and a three-year 45 000km service plan.
