JAECOO has added the J5 to its local range, a compact SUV that sits below the larger J7. The J5 comes in three variants: Vortex, Glacier, and Inferno.
The J5 uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with CVT transmission, producing 115kW and 230Nm of torque. Power goes to the front wheels only.
Styling follows JAECOO’s design theme with a bold front grille and slim headlights. The look is clean and simple, with squared wheel arches. The Vortex and Glacier get 17-inch wheels, whilst the Inferno has 18-inch alloys. All models have a rear light bar, and LED headlights are standard on Glacier and Inferno versions.
Inside, the 2,620mm wheelbase creates good space for passengers. Boot capacity is 480 litres.
The Vortex includes automatic wipers and headlights, cloth seats, 13.2-inch infotainment screen, automatic climate control, wireless phone connectivity, digital driver display, and four speakers.
The Glacier adds leather seats, power driver’s seat adjustment, and six speakers.
The Inferno gets dual-zone climate control, powered tailgate, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, and eight speakers.
Pricing starts with the Vortex at R379,900 (R369,900 launch price for the first month), the Glacier at R439,900 (R429,900 launch price), and the Inferno at R479,900.
