South Africa's compact SUV segment is one of the most fiercely contested in the market, and the GAC Emzoom Nova arrives ready to make its case.
Distributed locally by Salvador Caetano South Africa, the Nova joins the existing Emzoom Executive and RStyle models to broaden the range, slotting in as the accessible entry point with a starting price of R359 900.
Built on GAC's Mega Chassis, the Nova is pitched at buyers who want modern technology and urban versatility without stretching the budget. A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 130kW and 270Nm provides the motivation, paired with a German-engineered seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission that prioritises efficiency and crisp gear changes. Three selectable driving modes — Eco, Comfort and Sport — allow drivers to tailor the experience to the road ahead, whether that's a city commute or an open highway run.

The exterior draws on GAC's "Star Diamond Shadow" design language, giving the Nova a distinctly modern face. A redesigned front grille, sharp geometric lines, LED daytime running lights and hidden door handles integrated flush into the bodywork all contribute to a premium appearance that belies the entry-level price. Seventeen-inch alloy wheels and a choice of six colours, including Galaxy Lilac and Fast Red, add further personality.
Inside, the cabin balances practicality with connectivity. A 10.25-inch HD touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto sits at the centre of the dashboard, while keyless entry, remote start, cruise control and an electronic parking brake are all standard. Generous legroom and a versatile cargo area round out the practical case.
Safety credentials are solid, with a five-star ASEAN NCAP rating and a body structure comprising nearly 59 percent high-strength steel. A lifetime engine warranty for the first owner and a two-year or 30 000km service plan complete the package.
