Citroën South Africa has confirmed the arrival of the all-new Basalt, a model scheduled to go on sale locally at the end of the first quarter of 2026, slotting into a growing line-up that already includes the recently refreshed C3 and C3 Aircross.
Representing a fresh interpretation of the modern family vehicle, the Basalt introduces a distinctive SUV-Coupé silhouette to the local B-segment — a first for the brand in South Africa.
The model forms part of Citroën's global C-CUBED programme, reinforcing the French automaker's commitment to vehicles described as simple, comfortable, sustainable and daring.
Positioned between a traditional hatchback and an SUV, the Basalt targets customers who want the space and road presence of an SUV alongside the efficiency, design appeal and accessibility of a compact passenger car.
Its development brief also had younger buyers in mind, with Citroën pitching it at urban professionals and growing families looking for a more expressive alternative to conventional offerings, while keeping running costs manageable.
The cabin prioritises rear-seat comfort for the segment, and the model rides with sufficient ground clearance to cope with South Africa's varied road conditions. It also incorporates Citroën's Advanced Comfort programme, along with contemporary infotainment and connectivity features and a comprehensive safety specification.
